About Our Degree Programs

Theatre at UMBC stimulates, challenges, and inspires. Students develop theatre skills under the tutelage of an internationally acclaimed faculty, in state-of- the-art facilities through a four year dynamic university experience. The curriculum focuses on production and a unique exploration of evocative plays, both comedic and dramatic, classic, and contemporary.

  1. Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Acting
    1. For students who want conservatory style acting training within their honors university education.
    2. Students are required to complete an audition for admittance.
  2. Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre
    1. Choice of three tracks:
      1. Theatre Studies Track
        1. For students with multiple interests, and/or planning to double-major.
      2. Design and Production Track
        1. For students focusing on one or more areas of theatre design and/or production: lighting, sound, set, costume.
      3. Theatre Education Track
        1. For students aspiring to work in theatre education. Optional Secondary Education Certification available.
  3. Theatre Minor
    1. For students who are interested in being involved in theatre, but may be pursuing a major in another department.
    2. Minors can choose from three concentrations: Acting, Theatre Arts, or Design and Production
